Important update from Kirklees Council regarding forthcoming funerals in the crematorium.
My dear Parishioners,
It is with sadness that I have to inform you of the following new instruction which has been received from Kirklees Council regarding funerals taking place in our crematoria. Below is a brief summary of this instruction.
Brief Summary of the Letter from Kirklees Council
As of Monday 6th April, all funerals that are arranged with Kirklees Council taking place in our crematoria, will be ‘Direct Funerals’. This means that there will be no public service except online, with no mourners in attendance. If the family wish, I can as Parish Priest celebrate a short service, but no more than 20 minutes, which includes a maximum of 2 songs, one on entry and one at the end. This service can be made available online.
All funerals that are already booked in will be honoured under current restrictions. This new guidance will apply to all funerals that are booked in from Monday 6th April.

This is obviously a very sad and painful situation for all concerned. These are temporary restrictions, but it is little comfort for those whose loved ones pass away at this time. I due course we will be able to offer Requiem Masses and Funeral Services in Church, but unfortunately at the moment, this is just not possible due to the threat of the Coronavirus.
If any of you, wish to speak to me about this please feel free to phone or email.
May I say ‘thank you’ to Brookes’ Funeral Services in Dewsbury who let me know about this new instruction.
